FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Atrilogy Wins Three ICD-10 Consulting Contracts
Medical providers act to meet Oct. 1, 2014, deadline for ICD-10 implementation
Irvine, Calif. – June 5, 2013 -
Atrilogy Solutions Group, Inc. (Atrilogy) has been selected by two regional medical centers in California and a major laboratory outsourcing firm in Florida to deliver ICD-10 consulting services.
Atrilogy will provide ICD-10 assessments, strategy and guidance to the following medical providers:
Barton Health, South Lake Tahoe, Calif. – a rural health care system located 100 miles east of Sacramento with a 117-bed general medical and surgical hospital, laboratory services, outpatient clinics and physician offices. Atrilogy will provide an ICD-10 financial impact assessment, ICD-10 assessment/strategy, project management and training.
Tulare Regional Medical Center, Tulare, Calif. – a 112-bed general acute care hospital serving residents of central California. Atrilogy will deliver an ICD-10 assessment and strategy.
Aurora Diagnostics, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – a specialized lab company delivering services and counsel to medical clinics nationwide, as well as more than 65 community-based hospitals. Atrilogy to provide an ICD-10 impact assessment.
ICD-10 is a medical diagnostic coding system implemented by the World Health Organization and used in nearly every industrialized nation in the world except the United States. The term “ICD-10” generally refers to the U.S. clinical modification of ICD-10: ICD-10-CM. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has set Oct. 1, 2014, as the deadline for all U.S. medical providers and payers to upgrade their current coding system from ICD-9 to ICD-10.
“Medical providers such as Barton, Tulare and Aurora should be applauded for proactively working now to ensure a smooth transition to ICD-10,” said Mark Jahn, vice president, health care. “Even with the ICD-10 deadline just 16 months away, a surprisingly high number of medical facilities nationwide have barely begun working on ICD-10. Providers that do not shift to ICD-10 stand to lose up to 100 percent of their patient-related revenue, as Medicare and insurers will not reimburse providers that do not comply with the new coding standards.”
The International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) is a revision of the ICD-9-CM system. Physicians and other providers use the system to classify and code all diagnoses, symptoms, and procedures recorded in conjunction with hospital care in the United States.
ICD-10-CM, like ICD-9-CM, is based on the International Classification of Diseases, which is published by the World Health Organization (WHO). The International Classification of Diseases uses alphanumeric codes to identify known diseases and other health issues. According to WHO, the ICD helps with the storage and retrieval of diagnostic information and in the compilation of national mortality and morbidity statistics. The ICD-10-CM revision has more than 68,000 diagnostic codes, compared to the 13,000 found in ICD-9-CM. The revision also includes twice as many categories, and it introduces alphanumeric category classifications for the first time. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, all U.S. medical providers are required to implement ICD-10 by Oct. 1, 2014.
